In Book One, we established that symptoms are communication. In Book Two, we learn the language your body is speaking: the language of the Nervous System.

Your body has two primary operating modes:

  1. Protection Mode (Sympathetic): Mobilize energy, fight, flee, survive. Digestion stops. Repair stops.
  2. Restoration Mode (Parasympathetic): Digest, rest, repair, heal. Immune system engages.

Modern life keeps us stuck in Protection Mode. We are not running from tigers; we are running from emails, traffic, and notifications. But the body does not know the difference.

Sleep: The Great Reset

Sleep is not just the absence of being awake. It is an active biological process where the brain cleans itself (via the glymphatic system) and tissues repair.

Why You Can't Sleep

Insomnia is rarely a "sleep problem." It is usually an "awake problem."

If your nervous system perceives a threat (stress, blue light, late eating), it will not allow you to enter deep sleep. Evolutionarily, sleeping while unsafe meant death. Your body is protecting you by keeping you awake.
